Low Grade Arcade

Low Grade Arcade is my solo racket. So far, it is just my modest amateur noise lab. It has been my music learning playground, my mixing and mastering practicing challenge. But above all, an outlet for stronger emotions.

Everything below was recorded at home. I played all guitar and bass tracks and programmed the drums with BFD. Then mixed and mastered in a laptop, mostly with headphones...

“Interesting Times” (work in progress)

I am putting together a soundtrack for these absurd, stupid times. And since I found that video editting is as enjoyable and therapeutical as making music, I have been writing tracks already with an idea of how to present them visually.

This song was written with the shitty evening news in mind. In the process of researching historical footage I ended up creating a video essay - on war, power and propaganda - and releasing it before the song.

“Heist Montage” (2025)

I put together this EP mostly to share what I have been working on with friends and with other musicians that I have been jamming with. The title track will be included in the upcoming Interesting Times, while the other two are sketches for potential tracks.

This was my first time editting with Da Vinci Resolve. Just stock footage, some serendipity, and time learning the tool. I was lucky to find these clips of a team of cleaners, cleaning, dancing, maybe heisting.

“Ambivalent Red” (2022)

Unfinished songs kept piling up on my hard drives, sometimes lost forever and I always wondered what it would take for me to commit to releasing something. The answer to that was a pandemic, a lockdown, extreme anxiety, and panic attacks.

Too much to process, an agoraphobic response to the unconfinement, and some extra time around the instruments. Good feedback from friends that heard the first tracks. Sounds cinematic” - they said. Energizing! That's exactly what I was going for.

These videos were done with iMovie and stock footage only. It was my first time doing video editting since 1997, and I got really excited with the process, even if limited to just a few effects.

On Spotify, Instagram, Youtube, others...

Yes, my music is still on some evil platforms but I plan to take it down soon.

These platforms have been convinient to share my music with friends, family, and other musicians. However, I expect that, as awareness rises about how these platforms are connected to the most horrible crimes, more and more people will want alternatives as well.

New, artist focused - or even artist owned - platforms are now reclaiming the space. I have my eye on Subvert.fm and excited about it becoming available to everyone. My music is meanwhile available on Bandcamp. My videos are now also on Odysee and I plan to make them available in the Peer tube network.

As a consumer I am also migrating away from. Qobuz is looking like a good alternative for audiophiles: large catalogue and high resolution audio. Their practices are supposedely fairer to the artists. And they are not investing in military technology.

About me

Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, I first bled on cheap guitars and demo tapes in the early ’90s underground metal scene in Benfica. Treason, Dr. Strangelove, Instant Waves, Rotten Jesus and so many other adventures.

I have been bashing guitar, bass, and drums ever since. From Lisbon to London, now Barcelona, always chasing my own - loud, messy, often senseless - mix of post-rock, alt-metal, and whatever else sneaks into the mix.

I am currently playing guitar and drums in a few different projects here in Barcelona. Look forward to share more once interesting things happen.
